Thomas and Karl-Johan Bergström are happy to announce:

Gala-dress by William Sweetlove – a wedding gift from the City of Borås to The Duchess of Västergötland, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria and her husband-to-be, Mr Daniel Westling.

The City of Borås will dedicate the “Cloned Frogs on Gala-dress” by the Belgian artist William Sweetlove to the royal couple who are to be married on June 19th in Stockholm. The sculpture was purchased from Galleri GKM for the Borås International Sculpture Festival 2010.

240x190x190 cm.

The “Cloned Frogs on Gala-dress” is in good company in the city of Borås, which has an important collection of sculptures, some of them by world-famous artists such as Jim Dine, Carl-Fredrik Reuterswärd, Frank Stella, Antony Gormley, Eva Hild, Bernard Venet, Richard Nonas and Tony Cragg.

56,5x46x46 cm.

Borås will keep the sculpture in the city’s own collection, but on the day before the wedding the royal couple will be given a miniature of the Gala-dress as a unique work of art for their private residence.

Borås has a tradition of dedicating sculptures, and this is the second to be dedicated to a member of the Bernadotte dynasty; the Obelisque was dedicated to King Karl XIV Johan, the former French general Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, who became king of Sweden in 1818.

The chairman of the municipality of Borås, Ulrik Nilsson, explains the choice of wedding gift to Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling as follows: “The sculpture reflects our textile culture and tradition and, besides, everyone knows what happens if you kiss a frog!”
